the Definition

Family: Is a group of two or more individuals who represent a nuclear family or part of a family with more than one individual with close ties and divided into each of the following groups:
- Couple without children.
- Couple with one or more children who have never been married prior.
- Relation to the head of the family: The relationship between each family member and the head of the family such as a husband, wife, son, daughter, father, mother, granddaughter, grandson, sister, brother, stepdaughter, stepson, grandfather, grandmother and other possible relatives (cousin, in-laws... etc.), servants and others (housemaids, drivers, cooks… etc.) have no relation.
- Age: The estimated or calculated period of time between an individual's date of birth and the date of time attribution of the census is expressed in the full birth years (The number of months is not a priority).
- Place of birth: The country in which the birth of an individual occurred regardless of the individual's nationality or place of birth registration.
- Nationality (country’s name): The name of the country to which the individual belongs politically, regardless of the place of birth or the dependence of the person's identity (passport). In the event that the individual has more than one nationality, he or she chooses the nationality with which he or she resides in Kuwait.
- Year of Arrival to Kuwait for non-Kuwaiti: Is the first date of arrival of a non-Kuwaiti person in Kuwait if he\she does not leave for a period of more than six continuous months with negligence to the period of absence during Iraq's invasion. If he\she leaves for more than six months, the last date of arrival shall be calculated for the year.
- The Country in which the counting mechanism is used: If a Kuwaiti individual and non-Kuwaiti individual are not present within Kuwait's borders on a temporary basis during the count, the name of the State in which he/she is present on that night shall be stated.
- Place of stay on the night of counting: The place of stay for an individual is mentioned whether he/she is present on the night of counting within the borders of Kuwait or beyond its borders.

Data on education: Enrolment: This is the case of an individual (4 years and over) in terms of being enrolled at any recognized stage of education with the aim of obtaining a scientific qualification or non-attending... Enrolment in education is divided into:
- Full-time enrolment: The full-time member of an educational institution, whether governmental or private at any recognized, restricted and regular level of education.
- Part-time enrolment: The individual who pursues the study at one of the following stages (elementary, intermediate, secondary, university and higher) but is not on full-time enrolment.
- Not enrolled: the individual who finished studies and is not pursuing any other studies at any recognized educational levels.
- Current educational level: Recognized levels of education are: kindergarten, primary, intermediate, secondary and equivalent, higher secondary and sub-university, university, higher diploma/master's/doctorate.

Highest qualification: This means an individual's situation (ten years and more) in terms of obtaining recognized scientific qualifications, and for an individual who has not obtained a scientific qualification it may be:
- Illiterate: Cannot read or write in any language.

Literate: An individual who can read and write in any language and had not obtained a recognized scientific qualification until the date of the time attribution. As for the individual who has obtained a scientific qualification, it means a statement of the highest qualification obtained by the individual up to the date of the time attribution, such as one of the following qualifications:
- Elementary: The individual has successfully completed primary education, whether he\she has subsequently dropped out of school or continues his\her education at the intermediate level.
- Middle: The individual has successfully completed intermediate level of education, whether he\she then drops out of school or continues his\her secondary education or equivalent.
- High: Any individual who has completed the general secondary education or its equivalent, whether he\she has subsequently dropped out of school or continues his\her education at the higher secondary level and below university (institutes), university (colleges) or higher institutes.
- Postgraduate: The individual has successfully completed the post-secondary and tertiary level of education, whether he\she has subsequently dropped out of school or continues his\her university education.
- University Degree: In other words, the individual has successfully completed university education (university or colleges of applied education), whether he\ she then drops out of school or continues to study in postgraduate education (postgraduate/master's/Ph.D.).
- Postgraduate Degree (High Diploma/Master's Degree): The individual successfully completed the post-university education stage such as obtaining a high diploma, or a master's degree.
- Postgraduate Degree (Ph.D.): The individual successfully completed the postgraduate level of education by obtaining a doctorate.
- Marital Status: The status of the individual in relation to the opposite sex in accordance with the laws and customs in force in the State, such as: he\she has never been married: an individual who is 15 years of age or older and has not entered into a marriage contract in accordance with the prevailing custom until the date of the time attribution on the day of counting.
- Married: An individual aged 15 and over who is linked to a valid marriage contract on the day of time attribution in accordance with the prevailing custom, whether or not the entry took place, and whether the second party (husband or wife) resides with the first or non-resident. As long as they are linked to at least one marriage contract - effective on the date of the time attribution even if the man has previously been divorced or died and the man is considered married to one of his wives earlier on the date of the time attribution.
- Divorced: An individual aged 15 and over who has previously been married and whose last marriage has been dissolved by divorce and who is not linked to any marriage contract on the date of time attribution.
- Widow: An individual aged 15 and over who has previously been married and whose last marriage has been dissolved by the death of the other party and is not linked to any marriage contract on the date of the time attribution.

Work Status: That of an individual (aged 15 and over) and his \her status in terms of performance or non-performance during the period of time assignment. The practical situation is divided into: - Individuals within the labour force who are aged 15 and over and are engaged in any economic activity or are seeking employment but do not find it (unemployed) during the census reference period, including:
- Employer: An employed individual (aged 15 and over) who works in or owns part of an enterprise and under the supervision of at least one employee with a monetary wage (shareholders in shareholding companies are not considered employers even if they are employed).
- Self-Employed: An employed individual (aged 15 years and over) who works in or owns a part of an enterprise and not a monetary-paid employee, including street vendors who do not do business for others.
- Paid Worker: Employed person (aged 15 and over) who works for another individual or for his\her enterprise under his\her supervision and receives for his\her employment a lump-sum monetary wage (for the hour, day, week, month or year) this monetary remuneration may be calculated on the basis of production and may be in the form of commission, brokerage or any other way. Workers working in the ministries of the State and its various entities, as well as those working on monetary remuneration in the participating companies, are considered to be in this category.
- Unpaid Worker: An employed individual (aged 15 and over) who works for another relative, has no connection or works in an enterprise, is not paid for his\her work and does not have a lump-sum share of profits. Under this definition, individuals who learn a particular trade even if they are paid a lump sum in cash.
- Unemployed who has previously been employed: An individual (15-64 years) who has previously been engaged in work in Kuwait for the purpose of earning, but who is not associated with any work during the period of time assignment or searching for a job. His\her working hours in the week of time assignment were not less than 15 hours.
- Newly Unemployed: Any individual (15-64 years) who has never been associated with any fruitful work in the State of Kuwait despite having the motivation to work and searching for a job during the period of time attribution but does not find it.

Individuals Outside the Workforce: Individuals aged 15 and over who do not work and do not seek employment during the census reference period include:
- Full-time Student: (an individual aged 15 and over) who is studying regularly for the purpose of obtaining a scientific qualification and is not associated with earning work during the period of time attribution, bearing in mind that female domestic chores are not included in the work for the purpose of earning.
- Full-time Housework: a female (aged 15 and over) who is not employed or working and is not studying regularly and engages in housework for her family or supervises over housemaids working. This concept does not apply to domestic workers who work in the homes of others and serve them in exchange for cash or interest wages.
- Has an Income: An individual (aged 15 and over) who is capable of working but is not associated with any work during the period of time assignment and does not look for it seriously, and irregularly studies to obtain a scientific qualification. As for females; not working full-time in their homes (or supervises over housemaids' work). He\she are an individual who lives from the revenue of his\ her property or real estate, from the interest of shares and bonds owned, or accessed by cash transfers of gifts or sufficient assistance regardless of their sources, whether governmental or private.
- Retired: This individual has retired for any reason and is not linked to any work. An individual (15 years and older) who has been referred to retirement for retirement to reach retirement age or a retirement application until the date of the time assignment. Other pensions and receipt of a pension - individuals outside manpower: individuals under 15 years of age, individuals 65 years of age and over who are not employed and totally unable to work during the census reference period.
- Unable to Work: An individual (aged 15 and over) who is unable to work due to a disability or illness that has put him\her out of work and is unable to work even if he\she wishes to.
- 65 Years of Age and over and Not Working: an individual who is 65 years of age and over and does not work.
- Main Occupation: The main type of work performed in detail by the individual employed during the time attribution week regardless of the type of economic activity in which he\she is employed or his\ her working status. In the case of an unemployed person who has previously worked in Kuwait, his\her main occupation is the type of predominant work that he\she took in Kuwait previously, bearing in mind that the new unemployed person has no occupation because he\she has not yet done any work that qualifies him\her to acquire certain occupations. Examples of common occupations include: Civil Engineer - Architect - Internal Physician - Surgeon - Qualified Nurse - Teacher - University Professor Economics – Writer.
- Duration of Practice: The period of time an individual spent exercising his\her current main occupation from the beginning of employment after attaining the age of 15 until the date of the time attribution in the full birth years with negligence to months, whether it be practicing this profession in the State of Kuwait or abroad.
- The Name of the Establishment: The business name of the enterprise in which the employer works. In the absence of a trade name, the business name of the enterprise is written, and for the unemployed person previously employed in Kuwait, the business name or the business in which he\she worked previously in Kuwait.
- Main Economic Activity: Is the main type of work performed by the enterprise in which the individual works if he\she is employed by an enterprise. If he\she is a street vendor, his\her main activity is the type of work he is engaged whether in services, agricultural or commercial. In any case, the type of economic activity must be explained in detail to clarify whether it is industrial in the industrial sector where, for example, the main economic activity derives from the type of commodity produced as well as from the trade sector, whether combined or piecemeal, its name derives from the type of commodity traded. In the service sector; the main activity is derived from the type of service performed. For street vendors, their main economic activity is derived from the type of work they deal with, such as merchandise retail or refreshment retail... etc. For domestic workers write a domestic service (driver) or a home service (cook).... etc. Examples of prevailing economic activities include: petroleum production, petroleum refining, chemical fertilizer industry, food industry, soft drinks industry, floor industry, furniture industry, seafishing, retail hardware trade, retail grocery business, retail fabric business, National Bank of Kuwait, Cinema, Theatre, Kivan Middle School, Sabah Hospital, Restaurant, Cafe etc.
- For the former unemployed person in Kuwait, the individual must write the main activity in which he\she worked, which is directly preceded by the unemployment, and for the newly unemployed person who has never worked in Kuwait, he\she must write (X). Those outside the workforce such as full-time homeworkers, full-time students, who have income, as well as those outside the manpower, such as children under 15 years of age, disabled persons, and older persons 65 and over who do not work and write to them (X).

Sector Type: Means the sector followed by the enterprise in which the individual works and is one of the following:
- Government – Private - Joint Government/Private - Cooperative - Household employing individuals – Other. If the individual is employed by a ministry or a government department, the entity in which he\she works follows the government sector, and there are some companies whose capital is 100% of the State and falls under the government sector. If the individual is employed in a private enterprise owned by individuals, corporations or non-governmental enterprises, the enterprise in this case follows the private sector, and if the individual is employed in a State-owned enterprise that is part of its capital, the enterprise follows the joint sector. The unemployed individual who has previously worked in Kuwait must write the name of the sector in which he\she worked prior to his\her unemployment, and the newly unemployed person who has not previously worked in Kuwait must write (X). For those outside the workforce such as full-time homeworkers, full-time students, who have income, such as children under 15 years of age, incapacitated to work, and older persons aged 65 and over, for whom no work is written (X).
- Government Sector: Ministries, departments and other government bodies such as government schools and government hospitals... The Central Bank, Kuwait Fund for Development, Kuwait Credit Bank, Kuwait Airways, the Public Institution for Social Security, Kuwait News Agency, Kuwait Ports Authority, Kuwait Petroleum Corporation, Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research and Zakat House are all considered governmental institutions and are owned by the State.
- Private Sector: All establishments in all their legal forms, such as individual, joint stock companies, solidarity, limited liability or equity recommendation, etc. Those who work outside enterprises are also considered private sector workers. Examples of households that employ individuals include domestic workers and so on.
- Joint Government/Private: Those companies and institutions to which the State contributes in any proportion of its capital.

Disability Status: The state of disability or the type of condition that makes an individual disabled such as: difficulty in vision, difficulty in hearing, difficulty in pronunciation, difficulty in body movement, difficulty in grabbing and moving objects... etc.
- Main Cause of Disability: Is the direct cause of disability such as: disability at birth, illness, inheritance, injury at work, road accident and other accidents.
- Personal Computer Usage (PC): This means whether or not an individual (4 years of age or older) is a user of a personal computer, and the use of a personal computer may be at home, at work or elsewhere.
- Internet Usage: Whether or not an individual (4 years or older) is a user of the Internet and may be using the Internet at home, at work, at Internet clubs, at friends or elsewhere.
