For this reason, it was decided to conduct three censuses:
The first is about buildings, the second is about population and housing, and the third is about establishments in successive periods of time during 2011.
The field work for the General Census of Population, Housing and Establishments 2010/2011 was completed during the period from 04/21/2011 to 07/07/2011. It used ICR (Intelligent Character Recognition) technology for the first time in collecting and entering census data.
The main objective of conducting the general census is to provide a huge database on the population and its various characteristics, and to draw the demographic map of society, in a world whose features are changing very quickly due to scientific and technological progress, which contributes to achieving human development for the population and their living conditions.
Among the most important data provided by the census is the inventory of human resources and their demographic characteristics, and the provision of comprehensive and accurate data on economic and social characteristics, in addition to the characteristics of buildings, housing and households, which are considered the basic foundation for any study of development. The census also contributes to providing a large amount of detailed information about the economic situation and trends in the country, to serve as a basic tool in the hands of decision-makers, planners, and those interested in development affairs, and to meet the demands of researchers and scholars.
